DASM Exam Information

  • Your exam fee is included in your tuition and information on scheduling your exam is provided by PMI approximately 2 Business days after the workshop

No agile experience is required – this is introductory training and certification built to educate you on agile and lean fundamentals and the Disciplined Agile tool kit with skills to apply what you have learned immediately.

Your courseware is included in the price of the course, however you will need to download the material from the PMI website.  Once you have purchased the course, Tactec will order the courseware for you and you will receive an email from PMI with your access code.  Please note that the access code will expire in 30 days and can only be used once.

Download your courseware from the PMI website.  Read Section 1 of the “Choose Your WoW!” book, which will take approximately one hour.  Or you may prefer to watch the video overview of DA by Mark Lines, which will take about 30 minutes. 

Please note that this course is conducted via Zoom and we will be using a miro board for whiteboard exercises during the course.  If you are not already familiar with these tools, please watch these videos to learn the basics of Zoom and miro so you will be ready to fully participate in the course.

We would like you to feel comfortable and be engaged in the learning process.  Students are encouraged to post their questions on the Parking Lot in the miro board and those questions will be answered during the course.  We try to take a five minute break every hour so that you can stretch your legs, grab a beverage, and get a quick snack.  Then we get right back to the course, since we have a lot of material to cover.  We usually take a 20 or 30 minute break for lunch.

In a nutshell, Lean is based on systems thinking, whereas Agile is not based on systems thinking.  Both methods aim to provide clients with a high-quality product rapidly, one iteration (or sprint) at a time.  Many who aim to practice either Lean or Agile methods do not have a clear understanding of the differences between the goals and principles of Lean vs. Agile.  A failure to understand the principles behind the methodology can lead to shallow implementations, which means the ideal outcome will not be achieved.  Teams that clearly understand both Agile and Lean will be more successful, and can even hybridize their approach to enjoy the benefits of both methodologies.

Congratulations on beginning your Agility journey!  After you have purchased the course, Tactec will order the courseware for you and you will receive an email from PMI with your access code.  Please note that the access code will expire in 30 days and can only be used once.

The DASM exam has 50 questions and you are given 90 minutes to complete the exam.  The 90 minutes does not include a tutorial which takes 10-15 to go through. The exam is a non-proctored exam with Pearson Vue.


If you have studied the courseware and have a good understanding of Agile, you should have no problem passing the course.  Remember to read the wording of each question carefully to avoid falling for trick questions.

After you have finished the DASM course, we will notify PMI that you have successfully completed the course (please email us your PMI number so we can include it, this will speed up the process).  PMI will then send you an email with a link to the exam.  Once PMI sends you the link, you have 30 days to take the exam online.  Certification is granted after you pass the exam.

Mr. James, Ronald, Maverick holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at The University of Texas, San Antonio.

Mr. Maverick or JR as many call him is a “slick” but warm and friendly character in our upcoming book on the DevOps Mindset. Mr. Maverick cares about his IT team very much and could charm the socks off a Texas Longhorn. JR is liked by many in his organization; however, he is not as well trusted by the Overlords as he used to be. Mr. Maverick has a group of loyal staff, including Mr. Barker a bit of an opposite to JR. Of course, Mr. Barker would never call him JR; he would only call him Mr. Maverick because well, Mr. Maverick is his boss. Mr. Maverick has held many IT positions in the past, including starting as a Sales Professional for HP and IBM mini and mainframe computers. Over the years he has risen through the ranks to hold this senior position by delivering using high-paid consultants and Big name firms. He also received his promotion from outsourcing to a foreign country where he was able to reduce his IT spend significantly. Recently he has discovered (actually this was made painfully aware to him by the Overlords) that both the Offshore roadmap and use of external consultants was not giving him the value and velocity for his IT department, and he was probably paying more than he bargained for

So, after hearing a talk at a DevOps event by the Agents of Chaos, JR decided to enlist them to help with their digital transformation roadmap and help improve the value, focus and velocity of his department. However, MR. Maverick has a few ideas about agile and DevOps, something he has heard about for a while and read in various CIO magazines; he thinks of these as Marketing terms and something that can be bought. While Mr. Maverick has held on for many years to traditional IT ways of working he has come to the end of his tenure if he doesn’t do something fast and get DevOps working quickly as he has promised to the Overlords providing him with a little more rope to get the transformation completed more quickly as they view his IT department ageing, procrastinators who are not able to keep up with business demands. JR says in his mind, “I will get it done, they don’t call me Maverick for nothing!“
